PROJECT #2 GRADING RUBRIC

Project #2 - RUBRIC Here's what I'll be looking for as I grade project #2: Concept– Is there a clear and engaging story? A clear beginning, middle, and end, or other purposeful structure? Technical– Was the audio recorded clearly, using the proper zoom settings and mic placement? Editing– Did they use the tools we covered in lecture and lab? Is room tone placed under and between the interview bytes? Were sound effects (SFX) and music used effectively? Does the voice of the interviewee sit well above the music and SFX level? SUGGESTED WORKFLOW FOR EDITING YOUR AUDIO PIECE

SUGGESTED WORKFLOW FOR EDITING YOUR AUDIO PIECE 1. Listen back to the whole interview in the source monitor. Make in and out points as you go along, selecting the portions of the interview you like, and dropping each clip into a sequence called "Selects." 2. Duplicate your "Selects" sequence and re-name the new sequence "Draft #1." Use this "Draft #1" sequence to organize and trim your selected clips together to make coherent sections (with a beginning, middle and end). 3. Every time you open up premiere, duplicate this "Draft #1" sequence and give it the next sequential number, i.e. "Draft #2" and then "Draft #3" that way you are saving your edits as you go, and can always return to a previous version of your edit if you do not like what you did. This is not a hard and fast rule, but generally it is a good idea to edit out most of the "um's" and repetitive lines, making sure that the interviewe...

Audio Editing Tips

AUDIO EDITING TIPS A couple things to keep in mind when Editing your Audio pieces: Prioritize the person's voice - we want to be able to hear what they are saying! Don't overpower with music and sound effects (SFX).  Please don't use wall to wall music - although this may be part of the YouTube aesthetic, please don't play music throughout your piece - our ears will get tired and bored. Music can be such a powerful tool when deployed at the right time, but if you use it the whole time it loses it's potency. For this project, make sure you use non copyrighted music. Please no wall to wall talking - make sure there are pauses for the listener to digest what your subject is saying. You can use pauses to help create rhythm in your piece and underline important points that you want to make sure the listener understands. This is a great time to use your ROOM-TONE. Use ambient sounds and effects to evoke a location or a mood. Feel free to get weird and associative w...
